Headline: Free guided tour: Chiesa di S. Giuliano e Sant’Antonino di Como
Long and eventful developments led from the original 11th/12th-century monastery-hospital with its adjoining church to the present-day parish church at the foot of the Brunate hill.
Beyond a simple, unadorned gabled façade, the interior reveals itself to our eyes as elegant, with a sumptuous Baroque decorative scheme of remarkable craftsmanship, created by some of our great Comacine Masters: Pietro Lironi, Carlo Innocenzo Carloni, and Agostino Silva. It also features a refined stained-glass window by the Como-born painter Mario Radice, one of the leading figures of abstract art.
And finally, a special highlight: at the Romanesque base of the bell tower, visitors will exceptionally be able to admire some fascinating 14th-century frescoes, rarely visible to the public.
